I was born in 1976 and out of”Blaxploitation” films, there were not any African American actions or science fiction celebrities. The personalities in these films had super powers, super intellect, and had to dig deep to conquer extra-ordinarily difficult best adventure movie, often at great personal price. It’s worth mentioning here that the stars of those movies were Caucasian males, and not one of them looked just like me. Hell, in the majority of the films with a futuristic theme there wasn’t a Black individual cast as one more!
It’s no secret that lots of actions, fantasy and science fiction films comprise ancient magic and mythical elements integrated into the fabric of the tales; to observe titans, gods, goddesses and fairies as personalities in modern day theatre is a somewhat commonplace phenomenon – with a single caveat, these characters never appear in films written or led by Blacks, or even using the Black cast.
If it comes to Black theatre we now have few options for our picture going pleasure. We’ve got comedies, action comedies, the most important”Jesus Will Fix It” movie and”Hot Ghetto Mess Drama,” (generally not the fantastic type ), and last but not least is your”Catharsis Drama” – films about deep abuse and suffering and the way the figures where able to carry on later being victimized and traumatized. Few Black authors explore the domain of science fiction, fantasy, or make films using a magic or mythical motif.
To include degrees of thickness and subtle sophistication for their tales, skillful writers and writers can use both the archetypical and symbolic elements of their heroes and heroines of ancient mythical tales and fairy and folk tales. Many times these components are utilized so convincingly as to be barely recognized by nearly all the film going public, but to the trained eye, these components are obvious.
